Causes of gastritis

Possible causes of gastritis are:

  • drinking too much alcohol

  • prolonged use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin or ibuprofen

  • infection with bacteria such as Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)

  • major surgery

  • traumatic injury

  • traumatic burns

  • severe infections

  • Diseases that can cause gastritis:

    • pernicious anemia

    • autoimmune disorders

    • chronic bile reflux
